A careful path for moving product reviews to Shopify
Good review migration is a catalogue exercise as much as a data import. Start by deciding how each review should find its product.
Start with the source
Keep the original export unchanged. It is your reference when a row cannot be matched or a field needs interpretation.
Choose the right identifier
Product ID, handle, SKU, EAN or a reliable custom field can each be right for a different catalogue. The most familiar column is not always the most stable one.
Preview before publishing
Resolve unmatched and ambiguous products before imported content appears on the storefront. A clean import is easier to trust than a fast one.
The right answer depends on the store’s products, source data and accepted product workflow. Check each condition before publishing a change.
